100 years ago Taos Pueblo Indians were the labor contracted to build a damn on the Cimarron river, creating what is now Eagle Nest Lake State Park. The region had been a renegade gold-mining outpost. The Village is throwing a festival this weekend to commemorate the centennial. A few years ago I did some hefty reporting on cattle mutilations in the area to the south of Eagle Nest and in Arroyo Hondo. And Jenny Bird will be hosting Goddess Fest this weekend.
